Happy Birthday - this one's for you.

October 30 is a special day for a lot of special people in my life.
First of all, it's the day before Halloween, and if you don't know this, I LOVE Halloween.

Next? It's National Candy Corn Day. And I only have 15 of them left in my house. I don't think they will make it til 10am.

My friend, Jerry, is having a birthday today, so I'd like to send a big shout out to him. He's a bit camera shy.

And this is my "baby" kitty, Jazmine. She is turning 15 today. She had 6 white hairs when I got her. I think if she had stayed in the cooker one more day and been born on October 31, she would have been a solid black kitty.

She really is a sweetheart, but boy was she mad when I brought home a kitten. She really likes Halloween too.

My Mom's birthday is today. She would have been 64. This was her at age 16. Nice gun, Mom.

This was her on her second wedding day at our family cabin in Colorado, shortly before she passed away (at age 47). She married a spectacular guy who gave her an engagement ring on the day she told him the cancer came back. He told her that he wanted to spend the rest of her life with her. And he did. Thank you Chuck.

Happy Birthday to all of you. This one's for you.

Facts about Candy Corn

Who doesn't love candy corn? I decided to do a bit of research on the candy, so that you didn't have to. You can thank me later.
  • Candy corns were invented in 1880.
  • They were originally handmade by men (not women) for 8 months out of the year.
  • Sugar, corn syrup and honey continue to be the main ingredients.
  • Three passes for each mold is how they get the tri-color.
  • 35 million pounds of candy corn are sold each year. That is approximately 9 billion individual candy corns.
  • Most people eat them in 3 bites - white is usually first.
  • Candy corn is naturally fat free.
  • One serving of candy corns is only 140 calories.
  • Each candy corn has 3-1/2 calories.
  • 26 pieces is one serving.
  • We aren't going to talk about the sugar content.
  • Or the carbs.
Better go getcha some quick. Only two days remain until National Candy Corn Day - October 30.

Your welcome.

What do you do?

Imagine yourself amidst all the people in the Goodwill Store. It's Halloween time, and most people are buying their Halloween costumes.

You have a polyester-type-fabric "one-size-fits-all" green with pink flower thingy, complete with shoulder pads in your hands, along with matching items. The lady behind you comments about your terrific finds. She is serious and also distraught that she didn't find the one-size-fits-all thingy first.

Simply smile and walk away, that's what you do.

And for those of you are trying to figure out what I am going to be for Halloween? Come on. You know me better than that. I never dress and tell. I guess you will just have to come to my party to find out.

Here's a hint, although I wager it's impossible to tell by this.

Feel free to try!

What do YOU think I am going to be?

See below post for other costumes I have worn in the past: Mona Lisa, dancin' trousers, carrot, Mia from Pulp Fiction, gargoyle. Hard to tell what's next!

Past Halloween Costumes

I love digging around in old Halloween photos. I obviously love Halloween!

Phew. Get the fork out.

Phew. I made it. I successfully took 46 hours of my Broker renewal test courses this last week and passed all 5 tests. I had to test over 5 days. They always try to trick you with the way they word the questions. They obviously didn't trick me enough.

Being into the spirit of the season, I'm done being tricked. Now I want a treat.

Trick or treat? I'll take the treat, thank you very much.

I think I am allowed to have both a steak and some ice cream tonight.

Put a fork in me, I'm done.

And P.S.. I usually RISK (improgging word!) waiting until the last minute. I'm 29 days ahead of my November 21st deadline. Yay me.

I'm not ignoring you.

Really. I'm not ignoring you.

I've been devoting my time this week to these babies:

Jealous, aren't you?

My eyes are crossing.

#1 Fans

It's been a fun month for me. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I have people vying to be my #1 fan. Luckily, none of them (that I know of) are like Annie from Misery.

Margerie sent me a VERY FUNNY card. Let's just say "it was a real gas", with a lovely princess.

At the
Cleavage Creek release party, Dan scored the very first bottle of Cab Syrah with my picture on it. He was #1 at least until Monday.

On Monday, Zeena sent me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers - orange and yellow congratulating me on the
Cleavage Creek spokesmodel gig and my 6 years cancer-versary.

On Tuesday, Zeena's daughter Molly, beat her out with an email that I will keep with me forever.

I was asked to sign my first bottle of Cab Syrah at a fundraiser for the BCRF that Buffalo Grill put on last week. The guy who won the wine was so excited - he asked me to sign the bottle. His girlfriends mom was just diagnosed, and he wanted to give her the Cab Syrah to give her hope.

Both Madelyn & Therese have decided that they are giving away my
Cleavage Creek Cab Syrah for Xmas presents, and asked me to sign their bottles (hope I didn't spoil that for anybody!)

Mari Robeson asked me to be a "featured artist" and pour my wine at her second anniversary party in December.

On Friday,
Jean Steel got me a fun photo shoot gig with Lori Steed because she hearts me.

On Saturday, I got the coolest cupcakes ever. How many of you have ever received booby cupcakes? A big shout out and thank you to Madison & Molly.

Who wants to be my next #1 fan?

But seriously...every single one of you who are reading this blog...I am where I am today because of you, your support, hugs, encouraging words, and love.

I am YOUR #1 fan!

The question remains - what is the best way to eat a booby cupcake?

Avila Barn is not just for people.

It's for dogs too. But Lucy says you can't park here. Unless you are a dog.

Halloween as a kid

This photo is circa 1974. Obviously (I hope) I am on the left. My little brother, TJ, is on the right.

I was dressed as Pippi Longstocking. I seem to remember that the only thing about this costume that we had to create was getting my hair to stick out straight like that. It was accomplished with a wire hanger. Obviously, I was not the daughter of Joan Crawford. I thought my Mom was brilliant. The freckles? I had 'em, we just made them more prominent. It's unfortunate that it gets cold in Colorado come Halloween time, because the coat I am wearing really covers the hideous dress. I think it came out of my Mom's closet and was one of her favorites. Remember, this was 1974. This also makes me wonder about the condition of my closet. Look at those shoes! Those were really mine. That is bordering on child abuse. I think we had to duct tape the bottom of them so my feet didn't get too cold. And how about those socks, eh? Mismatched and all. I actually do remember getting the pair of orange argyle polyester socks for Christmas, the year prior. Yep, child abuse again. I got socks for Christmas.

And then there is TJ. He didn't have a say in what we dressed him as. He probably liked having pants big enough to smuggle a pumpkin in - although, it is starting to fall our at the bottom of his legs.  I don't know if it's rouge on his face or chocolate.

Can we talk about the carpet? Brown and white and bits of orange shag. It does go nicely with the sandstone fireplace that has some  serious suet/smoke buildup on the exterior. And I love the way the brass gleams in the photo.

This was the same year as the 67 pound pumpkin. I clearly remember how much it weighed. Plus, somebody really smart wrote it on the back of the photo.

This would explain TJ's obsession with overalls, even to this day.  It does not explain, however, the person with their head practically up TJ's butt. But it looks like this person (I have a sneaking supsicion it was my Grandmother) was the only one with any kind of fashion sense.

I mean, take a gander at my plaid red, white, and blue dress with the big-ass collar.

And speaking of plaid, who in the hell picked out the wallpaper????? This could explain my obsession with orange and green. But it would not explain my sense of decorating sense, unless you count this clearly as a "what-not-to-do".

In case you can't really see all the details in this picture, maybe you could put on the 3D glasses sitting on the counter. I'm still not sure about that one.

I'm not sure why we finally decided to gut the 67 pound pumpkin. We obviously didn't need to carve it up, since it already had a face out of black construction paper. I don't even know if I knew you could make a jack-o-lantern any other way. More child abuse.

I may have to do Pippi Longstocking again for Halloween. I bet I can find some rag-a-muffin outfit in my closet right now. Or perhaps for lunch. I'm meeting a girlfriend for sushi. I wonder if I have time? Crap. I don't have any wire hangers in my house. EVER.

I was talking to TJ the other day and he was trying to figure out what to be for Halloween. I'm thinking he made a great pumpkin smuggling, chocolate eating clown.

  • I got THIS in the mail today from my friends Mechell, Olivia & Poopster (no further explanation will be given on the names :-)
