Thematic Photographic - MONOCHROME

This is for Carmi's thematic photographic. This week is monochrome. Visit and play along with us!

A few years ago, my fab-sis-in-law, Madelyn, and her fab-great friend, Dawn, (and their S.O.'s) took us up the river in a boat. The entire experience was totally cool, and there were some amazing photographic opportunities. Under bridges, around bends, below silos and sand mines, we finally came to this piece of riverfront property in Cleveland, Ohio. In California, it would be priceless. In Ohio? Still might be priceless, at least this image is. There was a single candle burning in one of the windows, and the only thing cooler than that was the flag they chose to fly. I was thankful that I didn't hear any banjos playing, and was equally grateful that the boat had a motor on it and we weren't paddling.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite shots. Imagine the stories. Who do YOU think lives here?

IMPROG - Facetious

This week's improg word is FACETIOUS, compliments of Marcy from Walnut Creek.

I'm wondering, did she pick out the word because she knows me well? Or is it because the dictionary flipped to the F's when I asked for improg words? Anyway, if you feel like blogging about something, try FACETIOUS, visit the improgging site and let us know you are participating.

Anyway, to keep in the spirit of this week's improg word, facetious, I thought it would be appropriate to post a pictureof what we finally got from those asshats at DMV.

Buckwheat has new brakes, a sparkly new orange steering wheel, he is registered and is sporting his custom license plates.

If you will remember correctly, the pregnant-almost-dying-pizza-eating-mouth-breather lady at the DMV told me that this particular set of plates were not available.

IMPROG #8 - Ponytail

This week's improgging word is ponytail.

Ever since that unfortunate pixie cut I got while in elementary school, I have wanted a great ponytail. The kind that doesn't stick out in odd places, not to mention, holds your hair back. The kind that swishes when you walk. But I got stuck with thin hair that barely made sense in a ponytail. And I always had to curl it first, to get it to even look halfway decent, and let's face it, by the time you go to the trouble of curling your hair, you don't want to pull it back in a ponytail.

I had my doubts that my hair would ever grow back after the chemo. I remember the day after I lost it, I sent this picture out to a few people. This really was the extent of my ponytail.

But now? I have been blessed with a great head of hair (it DID grow back!) The kind of hair I may have done unspeakable things for in high school. The kind I always wanted.

I don't have any more bad hair days, just for the record! And if my hair isn't cooperating, I simply put it in a ponytail and go on about my day.

Yay me!

I noticed that Susan & Margerie have both improgged about ponytail. Be sure to visit them and leave them a comment too!

Thematic photographic - LIGHTS!

I've been busy trying to fit everything into my life at the moment, but I didn't want to NOT blog. So, thanks to Carmi and his thematic photographic meme, I am able to still fit it in. This weeks is LIGHTS!

And the answer to the last question was:

Vegas, baby!

thematic photographic - SKY

There are all sorts of interesting things to blog about if you just know where to look.

EXAMPLES:
IMPROGGING - take the word of the day and blog about it. A new word is posted once a week. Try your skills at improvisational blogging!
THEMATIC PHOTOGRAPHIC - Check it out, another once a week thing where you post a picture that has to do with the theme. This weeks theme is SKY. (Thanks Carmi!)

Tonight I am going for thematic photographic:

I took this picture in Mammoth Lakes, California in April 2004. There is something about the air up there that is SOOOOO spectacular.

And speaking of spectacular - have a great day!

XOXO!

Party Guest from Hell & IMPROGGING - smitten

These are two of my BFF's, Marcy & Dan. This was the very first picture ever taken of them together.

In the early 90's, Marcy, my BHF (hubby) and me were roommates in a great house. Well, the house wasn't THAT great, but it had a pool, so that made up for the lack of everything else. In fact, the world practically revolved around the house, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, we decided to have a party. For some reason (probably the way the calendar was, or just for the heck of it) we decided to have a 3rd of July party, as opposed to a 4th of July party. We all invited our friends, relatives, neighbors and (obviously - see person in the pink shirt, above) random people.

It started out nice and innocent. Until the keg arrived. And people started to get a bit tipsy. I think that Marcy was the first one in the pool, not by choice. Boy was she mad! She had apparently invited this guy over that she really liked, and her hair was cute, makeup perfect, outfit just right. She had to start all over. She disappeared for awhile to gussy up again. The party went on; soon the blender was fired up and the margaritas were being passed around. People were now in the pool, but by choice. And the noise elevated.

Marcy came out of her room looking adorable again. People were doing shots of tequila now. Marcy wound up in the pool again. You know the saying - madder than a wet hen? I know exactly what that means, cuz that was what Marcy was. She disappeared to gussy up once again.

I seem to remember somebody drinking a margarita out of one of my shoes. I'm not sure, but it could have been Julie. Or Marcy. Or me. Anyway, you can only imagine what happened. Yep. Marcy ended up in the pool. Again. And the cops showed up. AHA. Those were obviously the neighbors that weren't at the party. Probably weren't invited either. Bad planning on our part.

My BHF went to the door and told them we would keep it quiet(er).

At this point, random people were just showing up. You know how it is. Tim was trying to make everybody shutup (I don't think it worked so well).  He wanted to shut down the blender. Some guy was trying to make a margarita and BHF went over and pushed the off button. The guy glared at him and pushed the on button. Tim pushed the off button. The guy pushed the on button. Tim went over to the wall, and unplugged the blender. It could have gotten really ugly. But Marcy chose that time to come out looking darling, once again. The person that was fighting over Tim with the blender was SMITTEN (used my improg word!). This was the guy that came to the party that Marcy had been talking about. The margaritas were forgotten (at least by THOSE two).

We all jumped in the pool. The cops came. AGAIN. Tim finally managed to kick everybody out. That is, except for the party guest from hell that almost fought him over a blended margarita.

This picture was taken the next day. It's obvious it was the 90's. It's Marcy, my hubby, and if you look hard enough, you'll notice Dan is in the background - clearly making it known what he thinks of their outfits. They both look like they got dressed in the dark.

And Dan, the party guest from hell? Well, he never left the house. And when he did, months later? He took my roommate Marcy away with him! That was the end of that era, and the beginning of a new one.

Marcy & Dan just celebrated 15 years, and are parents of twin teenagers. Tim & I have just passed 18 years and I don't drink anymore. Julie doesn't drink margaritas out of shoes anymore.

And we are all still best friends.

This post is dedicated to you. I wish we were together today.

Happy July 3rd!

Wordless Wednesday - WTF???

Check out Wordless Wednesday for more cool photos!

Fruit, Fruit and More Fruit

I love this time of year! Everywhere you turn there is fresh fruit. You can make fruit cobbler, fruit pies, fruit smoothies, fruit compote, fruit jam, but here is a recipe that most people either haven't tried, or haven't ever done it. This was my Grandmother's recipe. Don't hold it against her that she misspelled pureed! Mable (like table) made me FRUIT LEATHER ever year. It was  a real treat. No more buying fruit rollups. Do it yourself!

I have a bag full of plums, and will make some this week. There is a tree down the street from me that is weeping apricots. I think I will ask the owners if I can have some, and then will make them some fruit leather in appreciation.

Here is a photo of my Grandmother, taken about 1991. And her dog, Melody. And her gnome. And her plastic dog that I named Barney. And a little stuffed Snoopy. And I would imagine that it is Valentine's Day, although, there is still a poinsettia behind her.

I miss her so much it hurts.
